The Rotary Club of Randwick has been serving the local and international community since 1948. It is part of Rotary International - a worldwide organisation of more than 1.2 million business, professional and community leaders. Members of Rotary Clubs, known as Rotarians, provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations, and help build goodwill and peace in the world. There are 33,000 Rotary Clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas. Clubs are nonpolitical, nonreligious, and open to all cultures, races and creeds. As signified by the motto "Service above Self", Rotary's main objective is service - in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world. Rotary promotes the ideal of service through fellowship (friendship). Attending weekly club meetings allows members and guests to enjoy social interaction with other club members, enrich their professional and personal knowledge through regular guest speakers and meet other business and community leaders. The cost of the meal is about $25.
Whilst the Club meets weekly, it is not expected that members will attend every week. Rotary is a voluntary organisation, so we recognise that work and family commitments come first, but busy people can plan their availability to ensure that their capabilities are available when most needed. Becoming a member of Rotary has nothing to do with wealth or influence and everything do to with your personal integrity and capacity to make community service an important part of your life.
Members are not individually expected to contribute financially to fundraising. The Club itself is the vehicle for raising the funds necessary to support our various projects. Members who do choose to make extra personal contributions, however, can achieve special recognition from the Rotary Foundation. The main fund raiser of the Rotary Club of Randwick was the Kingsford Rotary Markets, held every Sunday. This was a joint venture between the Rotary Clubs of Randwick and Maroubra, with proceeds being distributed to the projects of the two clubs. Since the markets started over 20 years ago, more than $1.5 million was raised by our Club for local and international projects. At present the Club is engaged in other fundraising efforts.
